A man was arrested on Tuesday evening, having a large prescription for Viagra, the details of which are unclear.
Cory Mabry, 23, from Calypso, was arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs and possession of a large amount of medication, police said.
He was taken to the police's office at the GAA headquarters in Dublin, where he was being held in Dublin's Fort Dublin, officials said.
A statement said: 'The suspects have made an online purchase of the tablets. It is believed that they are buying Viagra on behalf of the Irish Government.
'The operation was led by the Irish Government's national intelligence agency, which has received reports of people being able to buy Viagra through an online pharmacy in Ireland.
'The product was purchased from a pharmacy in Dublin.
'The prescription of the tablets has been verified in the online pharmacy.'
A spokeswoman for the drug maker Pfizer said: 'We have had reports of people being able to buy Viagra online using a prescription.'
A spokesman for the Irish Government said: 'The drug manufacturer Pfizer is aware of the case and is seeking further information.
